WORK – Interview with Storyteller Marketing Founder Olivia Scott

WHEN she was made redundant, Olivia Scott turned a rubbish situation into a brilliant business idea and finally set up the marketing agency she’d wanted since she was a child.

She set up exactly the kind of agency she dreamed of, helping businesses tell their stories in an engaging and relevant way.

Oh, and she’s the person responsible for propelling NutriBullet into the stratosphere.

Hope you find her story as inspiring as I do!

Tell us about what you do…..

I am a Storyteller for small and medium sized enterprises mainly in the North of England. I help businesses to tell their stories in an engaging and relevant way. We establish a story to tell, a tone of voice from which to tell it and by using our marketing tool kit we select the most appropriate disciplines to do this, such as social media, PR and much more.

Why did you set up your company?

I was made redundant from a sales role on the first day back from Christmas break. That was it. I was livid, I took to LA for a week away with a girlfriend and while lifting off from Gatwick, the penny dropped. I had been applying for all of these marketing roles with no enthusiasm whatsoever yet ever since I was about nine years old I had wanted my own Marketing agency.. I would create my own dream job!

What has been your biggest achievement so far?

Being featured in the Girl Tribe Gang BBC Business video, having a client’s press release feature in Yorkshire Post (5 page spread over bank holiday weekend) and hooking up with Laura Whitmore to don a client’s hat over Ascot week. Recently reaching a two-year milestone is also very exciting for me!

What’s been the biggest/best lesson you’ve learned?

Check, check and check again. Especially when it comes to PR.

What are your goals for the coming year/ next five years?

Continue to work with companies I believe in and become a ‘front of mind’ brand while starting a family.

Do you have any advice for someone looking to start their own business?

Don’t take things personally, be prepared to work hard and remember it’s a small world so be nice, to everyone.

How can people get in touch with you or find out more about you?
