FASHION: The best jackets on the high street (Zara, Marks and Spencer, Topshop….)

My jacket collection is ‘out of control’ – at least that’s what my other half says. But I can’t help myself…everywhere I turn, great jacket, great jacket, great jacket.

A good jacket is a game-changer. Pick the right one and you’ve got a friend from season to season, no matter which trends are in or out. A good jacket can instantly elevate an outfit and is good for any occasion. It can just as easily be worn to work as it can over a tea dress on a breezy summer day.

Despite the scale of my collection, my favourite is still my vintage M&S blue blazer (pictured below). It’s timeless. Coming in at a close second is an amazing Zara sparkle pearl tweed jacket (sounds mad), also pictured below, reduced from £80 to £25 (it’s still in the special prices section now so check it out….)

My top tips for finding the suits-all-times jacket?

  1. Pick a ‘classic’ colour. Yellow is huge this summer – but will you still love it come autumn?
  2. The cut – some jackets can make me look like Spongebob Squarepants, and others slope too much at the shoulders, which make me look kind of like a sumo wrestler (yea, not a good look for me); I have to make sure the shape is right. The internet is great, but nothing can beat trying it on
  3. What are you wearing underneath? I’m not being weird – if you’ve got a cami on and it fits a little snug, how are you going to throw a sweater underneath in winter?
  4. Look after it – jackets need to be hung properly and washed properly – always check the label!

Struggling to find something that won’t be out of fashion once the seasonal choices change? Then look no further than these little beauties. Here’s my pick of the best jackets on the high street right now. I’ll update as I find more! Enjoy

It’s all white

I don’t tend to do white because although I’m almost 29 I can’t keep anything clean. However, if you’re a grown up, then white might be for you! This blazer from M&S has great buttons that will never go out of style.

Name a season florals haven’t been in and I’ll….eat all my floral stuff. A little bit in love with this Pretty Eccentric number (not in yet, will be on the page linked)

A daytime sequin? Ultimate glamour goals! Honestly, pair this with a plan sweatshirt and jeans and you could totally get away with this on the school run or weekly shop (can you guess my life motto is ‘there’s no such thing as overdressed’?)

THIS JACKET. OVER A MIDI DRESS *heart palpitations*

Grey is never going away. Fact. This is M&S (there’s also an excellent longer curve version in the sale right now)

Hell for leather

Leather jacket? Standard fare. Want something a bit ‘wow’? LOOK AT THIS.

I picked up an embroidered leather jacket from Asos sale last year and I love it –

This one is Topshop and it is guaranteed to elevate any outfit.

If you like plain but don’t want black, this beauty will be at Tu Sainsburys for £99

Leopard print

Did I or did I not just say I’m a little ‘extra’? Seriously, you can wear leopard as a neutral – and it isn’t just for one season.

Below is Primark (it’s now in the sale, so hurry)

This is Asos (think it’s now in the sale), but there are lots of options on the high street
